I’m Kelly VanMoen, MS, LPC, CAADC, a licensed professional counselor in Michigan and an active out-of-state telehealth provider in South Carolina. I’m also a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner and the founder of The Unfiltered Couch Counseling, where I provide virtual somatic trauma therapy and intensives for adolescents, high-functioning adults, and burnt-out, dysregulated moms.
I have over a decade of experience working with adolescents and adults, and one thing I’ve learned is that many clients are ready for something deeper than traditional talk therapy. I built The Unfiltered Couch Counseling because I got tired of seeing people intellectualize their pain for years while their bodies continued reacting in ways they could not simply think themselves out of. You don’t need more clinical fluff or another worksheet. You may be ready to understand the trauma responses that have been taking up way too much damn space in your body and brain.
I work with substance use, trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and a range of other challenges. And honestly, for many of us, talking for 50 minutes once a week may not be the format everyone wants or needs, especially when they are looking for more time to explore body-based responses and complicated patterns.
While I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Counseling, DBT, and CBT, I understand that coping mechanisms and breathing exercises are a band-aid to a fried nervous system that is screaming for regulation. That's why I focus on more than surface-level band-aids and talk therapy. I work with the body and nervous system responses that can keep stress, memories, and survival patterns living rent-free. We explore how those responses show up and what options you may have for relating to them differently.
I work with high-functioning adults, adolescents trying to hold it together while feeling completely out it, young adults unsure how to go with all the changes, and burnt-out moms who have been feeling stuck in talk therapy and are ready to integrate focused trauma support. If you’re tired of holding it all together on the outside while freaking out on the inside, you’re in the right place.
I specialize in somatic therapy intensives, including Brainspotting, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). These are neuroexperiential approaches that invite us to work with more than the intellectual version of your story—body sensations, reactions, emotions, images, beliefs, and patterns that keep showing up. For some people, paying attention to those experiences adds something useful to the conversation.
My style is laid-back, direct, raw, and unfiltered. I believe therapy works best when you can show up as your authentic self and do the real work without the pressure to perform or pretend you have it all together. Because therapy isn’t always pretty. It’s raw, gritty, uncomfortable, and rarely Instagram-worthy, but it is profoundly powerful. There’s absolutely nothing you can’t bring to the couch.

the goal is not to force a breakthrough, perform progress, or pretend one therapy format works for everyone.
Extended sessions simply give us more time for focused work, pacing, breaks, reflection, and integration.
Sessions range from 90 minutes to 10 hours
Depending on the format and clinical fit. More time does not guarantee more change—it simply gives us room to work without racing the clock.
That extra time may be useful for some people and completely unnecessary for others. We’ll explore trauma-related thoughts, body sensations, emotions, reactions, and survival patterns without pretending the work is always neat, linear, or comfortable.
Real therapy is not always pretty.

Please note that intensives are not meant to replace ongoing counseling.
You’re most comfortable at home, so let’s engage in focused, intensive counseling right there. All sessions are virtual counseling and scheduled by appointment only.
