At The Unfiltered Couch Counseling, our mission is to provide a safe, trauma-informed, and supportive space for your nervous system to settle and reorganize without the time constraints of typical therapy. We work together to move past your trauma and feel comfortable in your body again. By utilizing somatic modalities and transformative, deep, trauma healing, intensive counseling, we help the body and brain work together to regulate, heal, and move forward. This approach allows you to shift out of the fight or flight loop and learn to collaborate effectively, fostering a healthier response within your nervous system. Real healing doesn't just happen in your thoughts, it a whole-body experience. If you have been feeling stuck in talk therapy and want to try something different and feel things changing then this is for you. This isn't just talk therapy this is deeper healing and deep trauma therapy.

I'm Kelly VanMoen, MS, LPC, CAADC, licensed in Michigan and South Carolina. I'm the founder and licensed counselor at The Unfiltered Couch Counseling.
I have over a decade of experience working with adolescents and adults, and one thing I’ve learned is that many clients are ready for something deeper than traditional talk therapy. I work with substance use, trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and a range of other challenges. And honestly, for many of us, talking for 50 minutes once a week isn’t always enough to reach the deeper layers of healing or regulate the nervous system. While I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Counseling, DBT, and CBT, my work is deeper than coping mechanisms and breathing exercises. I work to get into the body and nervous system where the stressors and trauma continue to live rent free and help you kick them out.
I work with high functioning adults and adolescents who have been feeling stuck in talk therapy and are ready to see more results and resolve their trauma.

I specialize in somatic therapy intensives, including Brainspotting, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Deep Brain Reorienting. These approaches help access deeper parts of the brain where trauma, patterns, and emotional imprints live, the places that insight and conversation alone sometimes can’t reach.
My style is laid-back, direct, raw, and unfiltered. I believe therapy works best when you can show up as your authentic self and do the real work without the pressure to perform or pretend you have it all together.
Because real healing isn’t always pretty. It’s raw, gritty, uncomfortable, and rarely Instagram-worthy. But it’s also powerful.
There’s nothing you can’t bring to the couch.
